New Installation - Come Holy Spirit

Ruth Burink created Come Holy Spirit for St. Peter Catholic Church Education Center, Monument, CO. Work began on the 3500-pound block of beautiful gold veined Colorado marble early in 2002, about the same time that construction began on the building. While not a race to the finish line, both building and sculpture were completed in the fall of 2002. The sculpture has been installed on its 3-ton pedestal on concrete reinforced to 12 inches to hold the weight. The black granite pedestal stands 52 inches making the whole installation 8 ½ feet. The image of multiple praying/receiving hands on the front of the pedestal represents the congregation. A request and an answer are inscribed on the sides as follows:

Our prayer — “Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful and kindle in them the fire of your love.”

Our directive – John 20:21-22 “As the Father has sent me, so I send you. Receive the Holy Spirit.”

Behind the sculpture the 20-foot gently curved wall echoes the lines of the piece, and its pale blue tint accentuates the white marble and black granite. These details designed by the architect provide a perfect setting for Come Holy Spirit. The sculpture can be seen in the Education Center at St. Peter Catholic Church, 55 N. Jefferson St., Monument, CO.
