Figurative stone sculpture "Rapunzel" Limestone on black marble Height 18"
Contemporary female sculpture, our Rapunzel holds her long hair in her hands as she thinks. Maybe she is simply enjoying the flow of her lovely hair through her hands. She appears to be a young woman solidly grounded in reality so perhaps she is re-thinking the fairy tale scenario. The pert flip of her left foot suggests that she just might not throw her hair to the foolish prince who woos her, but arrives ill-prepared to join her in the tower. Maybe she will wait for a prince who is better prepared. Or, maybe she will make her way out of that tower without the aid of a prince. This is the mythic female fairytale re-told |
